begin'th week 7

Monday

Dave was back in and showed us a wicked lil stop motion short...guys name escapes me right now but he won an oscar for it in 1995 and Tarantino had it screened before Pulp Fiction as he liked it so much. Heres the final film and below it the pencil screen test which shows the incredible amount of plotting he went to before pursuing the final piece....a little excessive if you ask me but hey, two animations instead of one!

Dave then went round all the groups discussing their progress. Ours had had a few twists and turns since his last visit so we brought him up to speed on the new story and the decisions we had made. At first he wasn't keen that we'd got rid of the football, but when i explained it seemed a bit of a redundant feature and the whole "act of god" came into question he said it was a good call and the story was even stronger now. His only concern was the ending as it now saw two characters getting the chop which he said was a little too much. He suggested a new fate for Macho which myself and Matt really liked so were gonna work that into our storyboards now. Overall I'd say the story has changed and developed but become stronger and a piece with more comedic impact which I'm pleased about. Dave's suggested ending he said would allow for the right beats of the story to play out which would allow for the suspense to occur from the story. He was really pleased with our progress and the amount of pre production work up on our boards. Im really happy with the amount of experimentation the groups had with the piece as its meant we can choose the strongest visual direction possible.

Met up with Dave about the schedule which is still lacking at the moment but gave him a few pointers for adjusting the layout and that. Admittedly, Dave is not predominately on our team so i needed to update him on where were at/the specifics that was needed/not needed on the schedule. Will keep a check on this as it needs to be ready for the 2nd pitch

Adam provided some drawings of the environment layout but his designs need to be more detailed and start including colour so we can begin to see the environment as a whole. I've provided Adam with a couple of quick sketches that break down the layers of the garden (stage, trees, fence, background of the fence) which will hopefully inspire him. Mu Li is on the case with the colour concept which i'm looking forward to seeing soon. We really got to pick up the pace on the environment as time is of the essence.

That afternoon, myself and matt went over the storyboards we'd produced for the film and started discussing board by board elements we liked/didn't like and the possible camera angles to use. We then split the film into half and will re-board in more detail for the story which will hopefully be well on the way by the end of this week so we can start producing an animatic next week. We've preliminarily said we'll go over these Wednesday, however with alt of presentations going on this week, there needs to be time for the film analysis groups to form and work on the other project so it might have to be Thursday afternoon instead.
